Next stop: Stockholm. What can I say? Stockholm saw the start of our many "not on our schedule" moments. Firstly we met Benny outside the Cirkus Theatre after seeing Kristina från Duvemåla for the first time (when we hadn't even planned on seeing it that night), then in a record store in Stockholm the next day we met a guy who's brother is a friend of Carl Magnus Palm, then we ended up going on a quick tour inside Polar Studios! We really did the ABBA tour of Stockholm: we visited sites from famous photographs such as the painting used on the cover of The Visitors album, the house from Agnetha's Elva kvinnor i ett hus album, the old town square (Stortorget), Ridderholmen looking over the water to Stadshuset, as well as the sites of Polar Music's offices, Benny's Mono Music office and the bridge used in The Day Before You Came film clip. We visited a stack of second hand record shops, stocking up on all manner of rare old ABBA records. We also saw Kristina från Duvemåla twice, did our obligatory city tour plus a boat tour that was supposed to go around Djurgården but couldn't because the water was frozen over! We also met up with a few other ABBA fans in Stockholm, including Jos from Brussels and Kevin from Chicago, as well as locals Gustav and Håkan (though not the megastar Carl Magnus, as he was in London at the time!), and had dinner one night in the ABBA section at the Hard Rock Cafe (of course). Our last night in Stockholm was spent at Patricia, an old boat that has been converted into a complex of bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Stockholm really is a beautiful city, and I hope that I can make it back there one day, preferably during summer. More of Stockholm. . . |
