Interests
I do all sorts of silly things. In addition to normal sports like tennis, badminton, volleyball and hockey (the field variety). I have been involved in Aikido and Kendo, a Japanese sword art depicted below.
In my younger days I used to race dirt bikes. I had to
stop when the realities of being a student, i.e. poverty, did not permit
such extravagance. Since then I have been moving around too much to get
back into it again. Actually, I did get back into bikes again, it lasted
a couple of years before the second broken bone convinced me that discretion
is the better part of valour.
Since then I have taken up windsurfing. Water is a little softer than dirt.
I like to read, mainly science fiction and fantasy. A very brief list of my favourite authors would have to include, in no particular order, Robert Heinlen, Frank Herbert, Larry Niven, JRR Tolkein, Stephen Donaldson, Julian May, Anne Rice, Lois McMaster Bujold, Roger Zelazny, Sherri S Tepper and of course Steven Brust.
I love music and have an extensive collection. I think it stands at around four hundred CDs. A few bands from the top of the list : Fleetwood Mac, Talking Heads, Paul Kelly, Beatles, Elton John, Jethro Tull, Dire Straits, David Bowie, Everything but the Girl, Al Stewart, Eurythmics, Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, Crowded House, R.E.M. and Meatloaf.
My other main interest is Role Playing Games.
Given the opportunity I also sail, white water raft, skydive, horse ride, ski and water ski. In a slightly less physical vein I have also done some drama and have been known to put on tights and a funny hat and head out to the renaissance festival.
