I woke up at 2:30 AM, had a shower, grabbed my bags and left my room. As I was walking from my room, through the garden area, and then to the main building to check out, I was struck with sadness because it had sunk in that I was about to leave this beautiful country. I was mad at myself for not booking a few extra days here, because I knew I wouldn't be able to see everything I wanted to, in just two short weeks. I know that I will return again someday. There is just so much more that I have to see. I've seen everything there is to see of the country in books, but there is no comparison to actually being there with everything towering over you, the smells, the sounds. It is amazing what this civilization did over a 3000 year period, and of the influences they left in us, many things we don't even realize. They will never be equaled. Ever.
A close up of a hieroglyph of Maat, goddess of truth and justice.
A neat one of a wasp. It could represent what it is, or another word that is closely related. I've seen them around a lot, so it's probably the latter.
I'll leave you with the final picture that I took on my trip to Egypt. It is looking out towards the Sahara from the pyramid of Menkaure on the Giza plateau. It's one of my favorites.
