It's 2003. Almost five years after, RAV4 has undergone a very dramatic change in its now noticeably new but still unique exterior and interior design. Power under the hood improved a notch - from 120hp in 1997 to 127hp in 1998 and 148hp in 2001 and later. The redesigned 2001 model is more spacious if not cavernous inside. But Honda CRV would still be a bit bigger. The Rav4 advertisement would counter it with there by-word which says something like this: "It's not how big it is but how big the idea is." The reality is that there is no such thing as a perfect compact SUV. Perfection I believe is relative to your individual needs and taste. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so they say. It applies to every aspect of an automobile's features, power, design, space, measurement, handling, ride and specifications.
I bought RAV4 with the countenance that started the revolution in the mini SUV market. It's a used RAV4 '98. It's good to have a taste of history. I might buy the newer version later. In that way, I save some dough as opposed to buying a brand new car. The limit in buying a second hand car is no more than five years with a reasonable mileage.
I'll post my improvements, observations, reviews and links related to this that made this SUV category a huge success.
