It was August 1993 and after a long plane ride, we finally made it to
the airport in Islamabad. Having only a months notice for this trip,
I had no idea what Pakistan was. I'm not even sure if I knew it was
an Islamic country! As we made our way through the corridors of the
airport, I noticed one very overwhelming thing. It was the smell. It
wasn't a bad smell, it was just a very foreign and confusing smell. I
knew one thing for sure, I was very far away from home. Suddenly a
smile came to Phils face as he pointed to something. In front of us
were two traveling westerners sleeping on the ground. Both of them
were covered in dirt from head to toe. To me, they looked like they
had been through hell and back. I wondered what I was in for.
