1. NEVER take your bike off the highway. Even if you are taking a smoke break, leave your bike on the side of the road. There are tiny plants all over that will puncture your tires many times. The second time I biked the highway, I followed this rule and never got a flat!

2. The more your bike is worth, the more the Karakoram Highway will destroy it. Take a $300 bike and you will never have to adjust it. I know this is a very hard concept for flashy bikers with $4000 bikes to accept, but it's absolutely true! The mighty Karakorams take no mercy on expensive items.

3. True freedom is two changes of clothes and bike tools. This is all you need. DON'T take so much stuff! A school bag will do. See the above picture - this is all my stuff.

4. And here is the BIG SECRET! Actually I've changed my mind. I'm not going to make it so easy. Some things are just too bloody beautiful to publish on the net.
