Journal Key West |

This was probably my favorite destination because everything seemed to work out better then expected. We arrived at our hotel in the early afternoon and it was really nice, many employees runnin around, tiki bar poolside, on the ocean, and good locks on the door. Plus it was right in Key West so we could acab it straight to Duval street, which is the Bourbon of Key West. We stopped by Jimmy Buffets other Margaritaville, less fancy then the one in New Orleans but then again everything was pretty much like that in Key West. We also hit some hole in the wall bar and played pool for awhile before we really started the night. I was plannin on takin it real easy because i had made reservations to dive early the next morning and Joey was going to snorkle but as soon as we found the now infamous, at least to us, Irish Kevins, we didn't look back. I didn't have my camera on me so we didnt have any pictures of the inside, )i took one the next day of the outside) i was a little tired of carrying it everywhere. The guy playin guitar, Jared, who we chilled with a little after the show was so entertaining. He played loud Irish drinking songs and chuged pints of Guiness in less then 3 seconds, and he wasn't a big guy. At one point the bar bought him 4 pints and he drank them one after the other doing an irish cheers in between each one. Now this is Guiness, each one is practically a meal and he drank them like it was air. Needless to say he was trashes after his 3 hours on stage. We learned a couple realy cool drinking songs, of course forgotton in the orning and met some really interesting folk from Virginia who we chilled with all night. After Jared, the owner of the bar Kevin played a set and got everyone yellin real loud with competition songs. One side of the bar would sing Take me home West Virginia as loud as they could and the other side had to be louder. We each had a team captain who got up on stage for a beer chuging contest, our captain ruled and won easily. As you can tell that night was increadibly fun and we went home with no intention of gettin up early. I woke up the next morning and made sure we could do the afternoon charter and we could so no loss. The boat was awsome. We cruzed out into the ocean for an hour or so to the reef and had 2 and a half hours to do whatever we wanted. I did my first dive with the most incompetant diver ever, the man would of choked on his own air if id had let him. I untangled him from the lead line three times, deflated his bc for him twice while he paniked and kept him from getting lost on the bottom of the reef, i dont think he would have been able to find the surface! So my dive was a little limited to say the least. We were down for about 45 minutes when he ran out of air and we had to go in( I had used a third of my tank, i was a little upset) While down there though we saw some really amazing things. the water was about 50 foot visibility of more so it was easy to see cool things from far away. We had a 3 foot Barricuda swim a foot from our face and we ducked our heads under a coral ledge in the reef only to find a five or six foot nurse shark, it was pretty cool. The fish out there are like those you would pay a fortune to put in your own tank, Yellow and bright purple Angel fish, bright lime green fish and bright yellow tangs everywhere. I dont believe i saw two of the same fish! Joey had a great time snorkling he saw much the same but not quite as close. We got home around 7 or so and prepared for our trip up to Washington DC, with a stop at the gradparents in Orlando for a night... |
