Hotel Taninul

Taninul is a resort just outside Ciudad Valles.

The main attraction is a sulphur spring, which is considered to have medicinal properties. The spring's aroma is pretty overpowering at first, but to which we got acclimated quite quickly.

Front Garden

Here's a view of the front entrance. Showing some of the great landscaping that characterizes the place.

Alberca termal

This is the place to take "the cure". The water is cloudy due to the mineral content, and there are some floating sulphur deposits that look like yellow pond scum, but both of these are considered therapeutic.

We didn't avail ourselves of the water, but there were a few people there who did.

Common Houseplant on a Tropical Scale

I admit I'm easily impressed, but these were the biggest pothos leaves I'd ever seen. ¡Viva el tiempo tropical!

Parrot Cave

(So named because it attracts lots of noisy birds at night.)

Inside, the place has a poured-concrete floor, lights, tables and a bar. Great place for a party, IMHO. (Unfortunately the bar wasn't in service when we were there).

The cave also has bats, one of which had the misfortune to be on the floor where my foot happened to land. I felt bad about it, but I guess that's the kind of thing that weeds out the stupid of the species.
