Der 1.96 m grosse Celtics Star war eine ewige Laufmaschine, ein menschlicher Dynamo, der bekannt wurde für seine Grundlinie zu Grundlinie Dripplings. Havlicek war sowohl als Forward, als auch als Guard ein Superstar, seine vielseitigen Fähigkeiten machten ihn zum vielleicht besten Allround Spieler der NBA-Geschicht, wie das "Sports Illustrated" einmal schieb.

Er war ein Schlüsselspieler zweier Celtics-Generationen, als universell einsetzbarer 6. Mann in den 60er Jahren, und später als erfahrener Captain des jungen Celtics-Teams von 1974 und 1976.
