The continuing use of on-line banking by SMEs and individuals will contribute to the next generation of on-line banking. Banks will endeavour to improve existing services as well as introducing new ones. A "trigger point" feature, for example, would allow a user to set a "trigger" which would move funds to a savings account when the balance reaches or exceeds £3,500.

Financial institutions are currently developing Short Messaging Service (SMS), Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and third generation (3G) mobile telephony applications. The High Street banks are also developing kiosks which will allow on-line access. Analysts predict that banks will have to drive services via these new channels to attract customers, and not leave it to the technology.
