Pakistani Nuclear Test |
The nuclear test conducted by Pakistan took place at 30 May 1998. The preliminary source parameters of this event determined by the IDC (International Data Center) are as follows:
SOURCE PARAMETERS DATE: 30-MAY-1998 ORIGIN TIME: 06:55:06 EPICENTER: 28.56N 63.84E REGION: SOUTHWESTERN PAKISTAN AMPLITUDE: PERIOD: MAGNITUDE: 4.3 mb (IDC)
This figure shows a map of the test site in the region Baluchistan near the border to
Afghanistan. This is the second nuclear test conducted by Pakistan since May 28, 1998.
This figure shows the frequency-wavenumber (f-k) analysis of the seismic signals
recorded at the GERESS array located in the Bavarian Forest, Germany . The bright spot
determines the direction and the velocity of the seismic signal arriving at the GERESS
array. This data can be used to locate the origin of the nuclear explosion.
This figure shows the seismic signals recorded by the 25 seismic stations of the GERESS
array including the beam (first trace on top). The beam is obtained by summation of the
aligned individual traces. It is formed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio in order to
detect weak seismic signals from small events. GERESS is part of the International Seismic
Monitoring System, which is being established for monitoring the Comprehensive Test Ban
Treaty. GERESS is operated and maintained by the Federal
Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), Hannover, Germany.
