LAST WARNING: Be prepared for the horror that follows!

Elections

The results of the 1st round (7th April 2002)
  • MSZP: 42 %
  • Fidesz-MDF alliance: 41.1 %
  • SZDSZ: 5.56 %
  • MIÉP: 4.36% (fell out of Parliament by missing 5% margin!)
The results of the 2nd round (21th April 2002)
  • MSZP: 178 seats
  • SZDSZ: 20 seats
  • Fidesz- MDF: 188 seats
This has been the closest race in the short history of Hungarian democracy. Fidesz managed to win the second round and almost made its comeback. However, due to their clear victory in the first round, MSZP and SZDSZ managed to win the majority of the seats with a slight margin. It is expected that Péter Medgyessy will form a coalition government in the coming weeks.
