If your answer is yes, think again! Are you
absolutely sure, that you want to know how those crazy
Hungarians make politics? Well, if your answer is still yes, then your case
is very serious and we strongly suggest that you consult your physician!
Anyway, we believe in your right to ruin yourself, so here are some
politics related links from Hungary:
LAST WARNING: Be prepared for the horror that follows!
The results of the 1st round (7th April 2002)
- MSZP: 42 %
- Fidesz-MDF
alliance: 41.1 %
- SZDSZ: 5.56 %
- MIÉP: 4.36%
(fell out of Parliament by missing 5% margin!)
The results of the 2nd round (21th April 2002)
- MSZP: 178 seats
- SZDSZ: 20 seats
- Fidesz-
MDF: 188 seats
This has been the closest race in the short history of Hungarian democracy.
Fidesz managed to win the second round and almost made its comeback.
However, due to their clear victory in the first round, MSZP and
SZDSZ managed to win the majority of the seats with a slight margin.
It is expected that Péter Medgyessy
will form a coalition government in the coming weeks.
Institutions:
- Parliament
(there are worse sites than this below...)
- At least, this one gives you some information on the Parliament building,
which is a very fine piece of architecture indeed!
- Prime Minister's Office
(warm welcome from the man in charge...)
- A good entry point to other government sites.
Otherwise it is as interesting as you can guess...
Parties:
- MSZP
- big leftist (centre-left?) party,
in power between 1994-98

in power between 1998-2002,
out of Parliament since 2002 (hopefully forever...)
