Derry
What can I say about Derry?
Well, I wish I had spent more time there, but we managed to see most everything we had wanted to see in the first day we were there. Which isn't to detract from the place, hell no! Derry is a cool little town, well more compact than little....little makes it sound like some tiny place in the sticks. Its certainly not that.
The main city centre is within the old city walls, and gives you an excellent view of the rest of the city. Its cool, you can still walk around 80% of the old city walls . . . only takes 20 mins or so!
The pic above is of the cities coat of arms, I just liked the pooped looking skeleton at the bottom . . . I could totally identify with the guy.
On the right is one of the more obvious signs that this was one of the main staging areas for the troubles in Northern Ireland and behind it you can see some very impressive murals which show some of the important moments of the struggle, a struggle that is still going on now, although we didn't bare witness to any of it while we were there...thank god!
You may recognise the ugly mug on the left, I'm standing next to one of the many original cannons on the old city walls....this one was pointed directly at the head office of the Ulster bank....which I thought was quite funny.
