Paris

Well, I would love to say that our trip around Europe took off brilliantly, but everything seemd to go to shit on the first bloody day! We tried to be organised and book some accomodation before we got there, but we had no luck with any of the place we rang, they either didn't have space, wouldn't take bookings over the phone, we couldn't get through, or in one case got a answer phone message saying they were not open for another month!
Anyway, we weren't going to let this stop us, so we cruised off to Paris with the idea that we would turn up at a hostel and get a room that way....how wrong we were....
On arriving in Paris we started to ring hostels to see if they had room for the 3 of us. The answer from all but on was a resounding NO!

So we hurried to the one hostel that had said they could put us up, only to find that they meant they could put us up the FOLLOWING night, but not tonight. By this stage we were all started to get a bit stressed and more than just a bit pissed off. Which wasn't helped by the fact that we were dealing with a rude Frenchman at the front desk! And to add to the hassle, Ang had hurt her ankle along the way and it was swelling up fast, and sadly we had plenty more walking to do that night!

The rude Frenchman at the front desk told us that there was another hostel just a few blocks away that could definatley take us. So we got up and made our way to this hostel. Only to find that the rude Frenchman was also a lying Frenchman and there was no room for us. It was at this hostel that we finally got a break though. We must have looked pretty sorry for ourselves, because the guy at the front desk said he would ring around other places for us and proceeded to ring every hostel and cheap hotel that he could find, but none of them could help. Then he told us that because we were desperate, there was a basment that we could stay in just for the night if we wanted, even though he was not allowed to have guests down there. So we jumped at the chance and ended up in this huge old cafeteria downstairs (which is pictured in the top two pics) all by ourselves for about about $5 each! Sweet!
