Specialized
Bike equipment and accessories
Two programmable cycle computers. Here's how they performed over the first three months of the trip.

Used:
Daily

Performance:
Stood up to use in torrential rian, temperatures high enough to cook a Pavlova in, and in dust- and sand-ridden conditons. None of the fixings worked loose, and unlike my previous Specialized design that had bigger buttons on the face instead of tiny ones on the sides as on this model, it never turned itself on or cleared itself despite being carried in my bum bag when I wasn't using my bike. You even have a choice of colour. Mine is bee-yellow and so harder to misplace, overlook or leave inadvertently on the bike. (Rob adds: my black one was less hard to misplace, and vanished on a German train.)

However, the representation of the clock face which is always on view is far too small. I was usually an hour out! I preferred to toggle to the digital display and used this instead of a watch, even off the bike. If they could only put an alarm clock function in, too, it would be perfect for keeping the weight of your kit down while touring...

Verdict:
Sturdy. Attractive. Practical design. The fact you can program the total distance to any starting figure is a desirable feature I wished I had every time previous bike computers broke/ the batteries ran out...
