WILLIAM JAMES WILFORD first generation Belgium, came from Brompton near Northallerton Yorkshire UK and settled in Temse Belgium at 1 November 1828. In accordance to his father John William WILFORD founder of John Wilford & Sons Ldt., he founded in 1835 a linen manufactoring industry in Temse. This linen mill was a duplicate of the Brompton mill of his father. He was also manager of the " Société Anonyme de Navigation de Escaut et Rupel"1857 - 1907, better known as the "Wilfordsteamers". The offices were on the quay alongside the river Schelde later named on Wilfordquay in homage to the Wilford family. This office house on the quay was from 1995 and until 2002 a restaurant named "Wilford"

Reverend J.H.C. WAGENER served the Protestant community of Sint Maria Horebeke from 1870 till 1879. In 1871 - 1872 a new church was built in Sint Maria Horebeke and the family WILFORD has contributed a considerable amount to its construction. The marble baptismal font was donated by Ann Wilford , two colored glass-in -lead windows were donated, one by her brothers William and John James and the other by the family WILFORD - DERHAM. In 1873 Ann Wilford founded the church choir which she conducted till 1879. In 1879 the Wagener's moved to the protestant church in Antwerp where she founded also a church choir.

Charles Wilford, manager of a steam saw mill in Temse. Later he founded the "Ateliers de constructions mécaniques CH.WILFORD et fils, de Tamise. In 1897 Paul Wilford his son built the first Wilford car and about 1909 the biplan Wilford. Paul Wilford was one of the first to do car competitions followed later by his youngest brother Gustave.

Arthur WILFORD , musician grew into a brilliant piano - virtuoso. As a pianist and a young composer he travelled all over Europe Leipzig, London, Dresden. He studied in Vienna, Prague, Italy and finally settled in Antwerp 1890. He was an eminent music critic.
