Why and How to put a sling on a spyder.
Reasons why I would not play without my sling: 1. Your hands are free before and after the games. So you don't have to hand your only weapon over to someone else while you are adjusting your mask. 2. Steady aiming. Why do rifles have slings? To hold them still. So why wouldn't you want one for your paintball gun?? 3. Despite what people think there is no reduction in mobility. If you searched on the web for spyder you probable found someone's plan for a sling that makes you grind away at your paintball gun! I decided there had to be a better way. I found the answer at a local fabric store.
Now the construction part: This is very simple but if you don't do it right it will take you longer than you think. First at fig.1 on your SE you have a nice barrel shroud with a notch cut out on the bottom an inch wide. The same size as the fabric, wow. What you need to do is wrap it once around and sew it tight fig.2. Once you have that sewn off leave plenty to attach the loop. The other loop goes where fig 3 is. This part is a little bit harder. What you need to do is melt 1 1/2 inches of the material so that is nice and hard. I suggest using an oil light or candle. This is going to go between your handle and that plastic spacer above your C/A adapter. But what about the screws?? Next you need to make holes. This is why you melted the material.(Now you see) The screws are almost the same size of a 35 watt soldering iron tip. NOTE: remember you are melting a plastic-like fabric on the soldering iron. I was able to clean mine off easily, but I still used one of my old soldering irons. You may not be able to remove the melted material. Slide the melted fabric under the handle. Take a sharp object to mark there the screw holes are. Then melt holes in the fabric for the screws. Next attach the other plastic loop thingy on the back. Now the actual sling. I will not give a lot of details but some info. Sew one of the quick connect things where fig. 4 is. Now determine what length you want your sling to be, cut and melt the end. Attach the other quick connect to the end you just cut. I haven't had any problems with my sling and it makes life so much easier since I never have to worry about handing my gun to someone to free up my hands. |
