Choosing the Best Airfare.

International airfares fall into three categories:

Published airfares,
Airline confidential fares, and
Negotiated airfares.

Published Airfares.

These are Airfares that are agreed to by the Airline operating on a particular route. They are negotiated at Government level and allow you to mix airlines.

Airline Confidential Airfares.

These fares are decided on by the individual airlines based on market factors. They are exclusive to that particular airline and rarely, if ever, allow you to mix airlines. They are saleable by the airline direct and through Travel Agents.

Negotiated Airfares.

These are airfares that are negotiated between an airline and a travel agent and are saleable only by that particular travel agency.

All discounted airfares carry conditions, the main ones being:

(Please note: The following conditions can vary from airfare to airfare - ask your Travel Agent for the conditions specific to the airfare that you intend to purchase.)

Tickets must be issued and paid for within 24 hours of reservation.

The forward and return flights must be confirmed at the time of issue.

Outright cancellation once the ticket is issued results in a cancellation penalty - usually 25 percent or R600.00.

Change of the forward flight is not permitted, except by paying in the difference between the airfare paid and that of a higher airfare (restrictions usually apply as to which airfare you may upgrade to.

There is a minimum and maximum stay. Staying less or longer will result in having to upgrade to a higher airfare.

Change of the return flight will result in a penalty - usually R600.
