Passenger Service Fees.

Passenger Service Fees, or Departure taxes as they are more commonly known, have been introduced at most airports around the world, as means of self financing. These fees are most often collected at the time that an air ticket is purchased. Some countries such as Zimbabwe still collect the fees at the airport on departure.

 Some countries have introduced other charges over and above the Passenger Service Fees. The USA for example, has an Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service User Fee and an Immigration Inspection Fee. South African has also introduced a tourism levy of R100.00, applicable to all international departures.

Another consequence of September 11, Airlines have introduced a security/insurance fee. It differs from airline to airline, but the average is USD5.00 per sector flown.
