On Sunday morning, April 12, at the start of NYU's Spring Break, about 19 of my peers and I boarded a plane at JFK International headed for Atlanta, with a final destination of San Salvador. Once we arrived in Central America, we loaded ourselves and our gear onto a bus, and drove for two hours till we reached a tiny village called Ciudad Romero, in the Lower Lempa region of El Salvador. We were introduced to our Salvadorian hosts (residents of the village), and taken to our new homes, where we would be living, eating, and sleeping for the next 5 days.
