Suggestions for walks around the neighborhood of Morro Azul do Tinguá

 Blue Rabbit Sítio – 2 km from the praça (approximately), there is a permanent exposition of Mr. Germano Hatzfield’s paintings.  He’s the owner of the farm and was one of Brazil’s largest rabbit farmers.  Access on foot or by car.  It’s a nice place and the owner likes visits.

Castelo dos Riachos – Built last century by an English engineer, this castle is located in Engº Paulo de Frontin, on top of a mountain with a railroad tunnel beneath it.  There is a fee for visitors.

Ferreiros – Small town situated 7 km from the square and built around the Church of São Sebastião dos Ferreiros.  The people are simple and the place has been used as a set for some national films.

Vassouras – Historical city which built around the time when coffee exportation became popular.  Has some peaceful corners, among them the main square and the old railway station, which can make for an interesting walk.  There is also the famous Museum of the Casa da Hera (Hera’s House) which is a must see.

Barão de Javary Lake – Situated at about 500 meters before Miguel Pereira, it is and enjoyable place for a walk, with pedal boats, horse carriages and horses for rent.  It is approximately 10 km from Morro Azul.

Museu da Cachaça (Cachaça`s Museum) - Located in Paty do Alferes, oor 3 km after Miguel Pereira, there is a varied collection of cachaças from the whole country and experts available who explain the process of distillery at a small bar for tasting.  For those of you who like to drink, it’s worth the visit.

Tapeçaria em Sacra Família – A little more than 3 km from the square de Morro Azul, is Mrs. Maria José’s tapestry where one can appreciate the work of the artisans and, if it suits you, buy a carpet.

Fish and Pay – There are some small lakes nearby used for this activity, but they are not always operational, so obtain information at the hotel reception.

Vera Cruz Waterfall – Neer Miguel Pereira (Right after Javary turn RIGHT).  There is a beautiful waterfall for the visitors to enjoy and bathe in.
