| 23 July 1999: Oxford - London - Frankfurt - Almaty (Kazakstan) - Islamabad (Pakistan) A simple flight plan, yet.....Lufthansa sent Toni's luggage from Frankfurt to Osaka, Japan; the Almaty airport terminal and currency exchange office had recently burnt down; and as a result our taxi driver had to change our US dollars with a mafia man he knew...... |
| But thanks to the Australian Embassy/High Commission in both Kazakstan and Islamabad we set off by minibus for the Northern Areas of Pakistan much much happier !! If you're wondering about the political situation, we travelled neatly between the time of the Kashmir ceasefire and the internal military coup a few months later. Quite calm really... |
