An interesting social phenomenon in Japan is the 'Love hotel'. Rooms, often themed, that are paid for by the hour or for short overnight stays. Concealed parking and entrance ways ensure discretion. Despite what you might think, the main users are married couples, allegedly. The theory being that couples living with their in-laws in small apartments need a place to go for some privacy. Of course anyone can use them in theory, though single sex couples are not always welcomed.
