Flordeliza Tholen

I would Like you to meet my lovely wife Liza.  Flordeliza Sapanta Romero was born February 7th, 1979 in Nabunturan, a small town about 3 hours (depending on who is driving) northeast of Davao on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.  Her parents are Antonio and Virginia Romero.  Liza grew up in a medium sized family with 3 older brothers, 1 older sister, and 1 younger sister.  Growing up Liza learned to speak four languages fluently; Visayan, Tagalog, Hilonga, and English.  The first three are native languages of the Philippines, while her English on the other hand was learned throughout school and she mastered it through writing letters to American pen pals. I happened to be one of those that she wanted to learn from.  Liza enjoys school immensely along with some of her other hobbies such as cooking, music, movies and writing.

Liza is without a doubt the sweetest woman that I have ever met.  If you ever have the chance to meet her in person you would find that she is full of life and love.  She can brighten any room with her smile, her laughter and the sparkle in her eyes make me realize that life is such a wonderful thing and that love should be cherished above everything else.  I happily dedicate all of my love, my life, and all that I can be to her.  I have found that Liza completes who I am and she has filled all the empty spaces in my life. I find it hard to believe that such a wonderful, spirited and beautiful woman would marry a man like me. At times I feel quite lost from being separated from the woman I love. We are thousands of miles away from each other with oceans and mountains and time to keep us apart.  I can only pray that the time until she is here will pass quickly and that I am granted patience while I wait for the day that she can step from the plane and into my arms.

Liza and I are currently waiting for her to be approved for a visa to come join me here in the U.S.

Liza had her very first experience with the internet on 9/25/98 so you can imagine her surprise in finding my web page and this tribute to her.  If you would like to e-mail Liza you can reach her at: lisadavao@yahoo.com

Posing at the park in Davao because I asked for some pictures and sent her 6 rolls of film. Now I see why she calls me demanding. Here she is writing a letter to me in her room at the boarding house in Davao where she was going to school prior to my visit.

"Hello Everybody" is what she was saying during this quick shot in front of a Tagum city tricycle.    I still can not get over how beautiful my little angel is.  As you can see in this picture of her and a friend after getting ready for church.

If any of you have been married in the Philippines then you know that there is a mandatory class given by the government on "Family Planning".  This picture was taken after day 2 was done.  Liza thought that this would be a good spot.  I agree! Here is my angel on our way to church in Nabunturan.  The day was absolutely beautiful and so is Liza.  Put the two together and you have a perfect picture opportunity.

Here we are together in that same park in Davao that you saw in the photo above and the one below.  This is two days before I had to leave so it was very hard to get us to smile for this picture but we managed. My favorite all time photograph of Liza just before our wedding (Just before we all started sweating).  When she got out of the truck and I saw her in her dress I knew, at that moment, that there is heaven on earth.

This one was also taken before my trip to see her. Again this one was in the park in Davao.   This photograph was taken in our hotel room after the wedding as we started the honeymoon.  I thought that I should have one more (I never have enough though!) picture of Liza in her wedding dress.
