Kelantan, meaning "Land of Lightning" is hailed as the cultural haven of Malaysia. A visit to Kelantan would be incomplete without visiting this Cultural Center. It is here, at the Cultural Center or Gelanggang Seni (court of art) located at Jalan Mahmood, visitors can witness Kelantan's rich cultural heritage. Be mesmerised by Waus (giant kites) chasing each other playfully in the clean sky, see unusually huge tops spin rantically for hours and listen to the rich resonance of the rebana ubi (giant drum).
Activities
In the evenings, cultural performances such as Mak Yong which combines theatre, dance, opera, drama and comedy took place. The dance are inspired by the great hindu epic, the Ramayana and Muhabrata, who then modulates his voice to create drama and suspense. Musicians accompanying the wayang kulit performance shown here.

In a small wakaf or rest house within its premises of the Court of Art, locals can be seen tuning up their instruments while drowned by the sound of the rebana ubi. This huge wooden drum requires a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to play. While on the field another game takes the centerstage.

Another sightnot to be missed is the silat. Silat is a art of self defence used by ancient local warriors. The Cultural Center is closed from November to January. This is mainly because of the moonson season that is due around that time.
