New Mexico is the 5th largest state in the United States, with an area of 121,593 square miles.
New Mexico has slightly more than 1.5 million people, with a population density average of about 12.5 per square mile. About a third of New Mexicans live in and around the city of Albuquerque.
New Mexico was the 47th state to enter the United States on January 6th, 1912.
Per Capita income in New Mexico is about $15,000 a year. The state unemployment rate is about 7%.
New Mexico has the largest natural cave "room" in the world at Carlsbad Caverns. It is over 1,500 feet long, 300 feet wide, and 300 feet high. It also has the world's longest Tramway at Sandia Peak with the tram cables climbing about 5,000 feet over their two and a half mile length.
