Where is Siesta Key?

Siesta Key is a popular Florida barrier island off of Sarasota, about 75 miles South of Tampa, on the warm and sunny Gulf Coast. Sarasota and its 3 offshore islands, Longboat Key, Lideo Key, and Siesta Key have fabulous Beaches, World Class Restaurants, and almost Tropical Weather

Sarasota is the “Home of Golf” with many excellent and reasonably priced courses. Deep Sea Fishing and Boating abound. Visitors may watch the Charter Boats return and weight their catch, or take the twice daily Fishing Boat that includes everything you need for yourself and the kids.

DisneyWorld is a 1:45 hour day trip, and Busch Gardens is 1:30. But the Sarasota area itself has more than enough entertainment to keep you busy for weeks. Longboat key and Lido key are a 15 min drive away, and should not be missed.

But the real reason to vacation on Siesta Key is the Gulf, the Beachs, the Weather, and the Relaxation! Watch the Dolphins swim by, wade, walk, or swim in the warm Gulf Waters!

How do I get to Siesta Key?

Visitors may fly directly into Sarasota and be 15 minutes away from Siesta Key, or, fly into St Petersburg (1 hr.), Tampa (1:15 hrs), Fort Meyers (1:30 hrs), or Orlando (2 hrs). Catch a discount Charter Flight into Orlando if you don't mind the 2 hr drive! Siesta key is 1,250 miles from Detroit. Just take I75 south to Florida's Exit 37, turn right and follow Clark Road 7 miles onto the Island.

Siesta Key, a barrier island off of Sarasota, Florida

At its Western most area (Left side of the picture) is "Siesta Village", a great little "downtown village" with outdoor cafes, souvenir shops, and holiday shopping. Siesta Key enjoys tropical weather and Ocean breezes year round, and is home to (2) Public Beaches, "Siesta Key Beach", voted one of the world's most beautiful beaches, and "Turtle Beach", at the intimate (and less crowded) Southern End of the island.

There are two bridges out to Siesta Key, the North Bridge (Almost at the top of the Island), which gives you breathtaking views of the city of Sarasota, and the Southern bridge, that appears almost at the center on the Island in the picture at the Left. This Southern bridge takes you right out to Interstate 75, only about 7 miles directly East.

....The Southern End of Siesta and Turtle Beach

The "Turtle Beach" area (at the narrow Southern end of the Island), is a quaint and fairly private "Public" Beach, mostly known and used by the "locals" to avoid the more crowded beaches. It is not only on the Gulf of Mexico, but is also located on a small Lagoon named "Blind Pass Lagoon". There are Shady Trees, Picnic Tables, Barbecues, Swings, Vollyball Nets, and a small Boat Launch.

In the lower Left Picture (Click to enlarge), the Turtle Beach area is almost in the middle of the picture, where the Lagoon begins and leads South (toward the bottom of the picture). Boats launched in the Lagoon may travel South, turning East (Right) at the bottom of the picture, and then head out into Florida's Intercoastal Waterway (The "ICW"). It's about a 25 minute trip from there into the Gulf of Mexico.

Fisherman's Cove is located on the intimate Southern end of Siesta Key. Each unit has a private screened terrace facing the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and a boat dock on Blind Pass Lagoon, which connects to Florida's ICW (Intercoastal Waterway), and the Gulf.

The 925' private beach is outstanding for swimming, sunning, walking, and shelling. There's a heated pool and shuffleboard to further fill your carefree days.

If you're a boater, you're free to rent (nearby) or bring your own boat or Personal Watercraft for unparalleled cruising, fishing, and exploring the Dolphin and Manatee filled waterway. (Please note: Boat Trailers cannot be left on the Condo Grounds, but must be stored at a nearby Marina at your cost. But you may keep your Boat or Water Toys at the Dock immediately behind the Condo for the whole length of your stay.

A Pub and two popular restaurants are a short walk away, while Turtle Beach, Park, and Lagoon are immediately next door.

The Lanai

Our visitors tell us the Lanai is their Favorite place for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner as the Sun sets out over the Gulf. There is a ceiling fan & light for those late night card games and a rack to dry the bathing suits. Sliding glass doorwalls may be opened on three sides for the full sound and taste of the Ocean. This is a great place to watch a storm brew out over the Gulf!
