Hairstyling allows you to give a personal touch to the coiffure so that it is suitable to the individual. It is very important to have basic knowledge of hairstyling in order to keep up the ever-changing hair styles today. There are several parts to this lesson so this week we will only concentrate on roller-setting.
Roller curls are the oldest and healthiest way to go when styling black hair. They not only give your hair lasting curls and body but is also healthy for the hair because controlled heat is evenly distributed to hair as opposed to direct, uncontrolled heat unevenly blowed towards the hair with a blow-dryer.
Roller Setting Technique. Proper roller setting is very important in performing skilled hairstyles. Always be sure that the base of the hair you are rolling is the same width as the diameter of the roller. For example, if the roller is 1" wide the hair parting should be 1" wide so that the roller sits comfortably on the base of the hair. Be sure that the lengh of the part is a little shorter than the length of the roller. This will insure that the hair does not slide off the sides of the roller.
For full bouncy curls hold wet hair at a 45 degree angle and roll hair taut pinning with roller clips.
