Gem
Island (called Palau Gemia locally) lies on the east coast of Malaysia. It lies
about 800 metres off the better known Palau Kapas.
To get there, you have to take a 15 minutes motor boat ride from Marang jetty,
which is 18Km from Kuala Terengganu. The island is quite small and there is
only one resort there (Gem Island resort) - Good for us as we had the entire
Island literally to ourselves.

The rooms are nice and facilities are quite good - warm water, comfortable bed and TV (but mind you, the TV reception is terrible and you may have to move the antenna around).
We were lucky to be upgraded to deluxe rooms even though we paid for the normal chalets. There was no satellite TV, Internet access, Karaoke or disco and no swimming pool. A nice place to get away from it all. Who needs a pool anyway when you are surrounded by sea on all sides.
