view from Perry's Lookdown
On Friday, September 11th, Ben and Manda went to stay at Gardner's Inn, Blackheath. (The first building in Blackheath was "The Scotch Thistle Inn" erected by Andrew Gardner in 1831. The Inn was visited by Charles Darwin in 1836. The site for "The Scotch Thistle" was located slightly south of the present Gardner's Inn. The original staircase from "The Scotch Thistle" has been preserved and can be found in Gardner's Inn.)
Ben had to do some work there the next morning but that evening we had dinner at Vulcan's, Phillip Searle's restaurant. The famous chequerboard icecream, with pineapple sorbet, star anise icecream, liquorice and creme anglais, lived up to expectations!
After Ben finished talking to the builder on Saturday morning, we went to Perry's Lookdown, an excellent place to get a view of the Grose Gorge. The Lookdown is 8km down Hat Hill Road, off the Great Western Highway about 200m from Gardner's Inn. The photos look a bit fuzzy because of the effect caused by evaporating oil from the eucalyptus trees in the valley below.
