Central O'ahu

Central O'ahu includes the towns of 'Aiea, Pearl City, Salt Lake, Mililani and Wahiawa. Much of this area is also caught up in Hawai'i's plantation heritage as all are former plantation areas.

'Aiea and Pearl City

Pearlridge, the Pride of 'Aiea

'Aiea and Pearl City are both former sugar towns. The old mill was located in the town of 'Aiea. Today 'Aiea and Pearl City are distinctly suburban. Most of the area contains mostly single family dwellings and town houses. Some of the areas such as 'Aiea Heights and Royal Summit house some of the most beautiful homes on the island. A notable place within 'Aiea is the popular Pearlridge Shopping Center.

Salt Lake

Aloha Stadium in Salt Lake

The Salt Lake area is a mix. The area houses a variety of social classes. Some of the area contains beautiful suburban neighbors while some of the area contains a mix of town houses, apartments and public housing. The area also contains a mix of both local residents and also a high volume of military residents. Near to Salt Lake is both Pearl Harbor Naval base as well as Hickam Air Force base.

Mililani

The town of Mililani is growing by leaps and bounds. This town was also once sugar area. The town of Mililani is ever expanding, however through development. Much of it is now planned residential communities with homes. The area is distinctly suburban and is overall a very nice place to live. A majority of the newer developments are planned communities. Mililani town and Mililani Mauka has numerous parks and recreational facilities. It also has numerous shopping centers, a K-mart and its own theatre complex. The town is still expanding with more contruction projects on the way.

Wahiawa

Wahiawa Town

The town of Wahiawa is the center of O'ahu's pineapple industry. Driving around the area reveals miles upon miles are pineapple fields. It is also the home of the Army's Schoffield Barrack's and Wheeler Air Force Base. Wahiawa is easily seen as an older town. One of the highlights on the town is its California Avenue, also known popularly as "Church Avenue." Along this streets sits several churches stretched across several blocks.
