Beautiful Hanauma Bay

Located on the eastern shore of O'ahu, Hanauma Bay is known the world over. This is site is popular for snorkeler's and other beach goers. Hanauma Bay was formed when the ancient volcanic crater that it is collapsed.

In Hawaiian legend this bay was formed when two giant mo'o (geckos) engaged each other in a tail wrestling competition. Neither mo'o could gain the advantage so their bodies eventually solidified into the cliffs that surround Hanauma Bay.

Parking admission at Hanauma Bay is $1.00 which is refundable if you leave within 15 minutes. Admission to the beach is $3.00 if you are a non-resident. You may also rent snorkeling gear from the park. The Bay is open to the public daily from 6am to 7pm except on Tuesdays.


Directions

If you're driving out of Waikiki to Hanauma Bay get on the H-1 East. Stay on the H-1 East as it will eventually merge into Kalaniana'ole Highway. Stay in the right hand lane. Eventually you'll see Hanauma Bay on your right. Take a right into the parking lot.

If you're taking the bus, you can catch the #22 (Beach Bus) which goes directly into Hanauma Bay. You can also take the #58 (Hawai'i Kai/Sea Life Park) however this bus does not go into Hanauma Bay itself. You'll have to walk up the road from the bus stop on Kalaniana'ole Highway and Lunalilo Home Road.
