The National Cemetary of the Pacific sits within Punchbowl Crater. This site is the final resting place of approximately 30, 000 US Veterans. At the head of the cemetary sits the statue of Lady Columbia. Within the Memorial Building is a mosaic gallery detailing WWII Pacific Theatre and Korean War conflicts.
Punchbowl crater itself at one time was an active volcano. The volcano itself, like all others on O'ahu is long since extinct.
Punchbowl Cemetary is open daily from 8am till 6:30pm.
If you're driving out of Waikiki to Punchbowl you need to get onto the H-1 West bound. Stay in your right hand lane and stay on H-1 West till you see the "Vineyard" cut off. Take the cut off and stay in your right hand lane. You'll see signs that will tell you which turn to take to get to Punchbowl. Punchbowl will be on the right hand side of the road.
If you're taking the bus, you can catch the #2 or 13 on Kuhio Ave. to Alapai St. Transfer to the #15 Pacific Heights. Get off at Puowaina and Ho'okui St. Ask the driver to let you know when to get off. From there you'll have to hike in about a half mile to reach the Cemetary.
