Game Fishing in The Southern Hemisphere
Chris and I spent several days in 1999 trying to land a marlin in New Zealand waters. The Bay of Islands and Manaukau were not kind to us although we did have some fun with Mako sharks which have a tendency to perform somersaults onec hooked. The only thing of note from the BOI was that we got seasick in a bad way. Not a pleasant experience for anyone. We had to go to Vanuatu to achieve our goal of catching a marlin which once made me forswear fishing forever. My marlin was tail wrapped and so died, but the crew killed Chris's instead of tagging and releasing as we had asked. They make money by selling the meat but they won't make any money from us again for killing such a magnificent creature for a little extra cash. Had this not occurred we probably would have gone game fishing again, but then again it's a cruel sport.
