Haikou Hash House Harriers

The 4H was first started by Alex Lowther, brewery manager for Tiger Beer of the Hainan Asia Pacific Brewing Company, and he was Hash Master for the first 2 years. Alex has now gone to Surabaya, Indonesia where no doubt he will participate in the Hash there.

4H meets outside the Hollywood Bar, opposite the Huandao Tide Hotel, Haidian Island at 3:30 p.m. every Saturday.

Normally, a hash has many expatriates among its number but the 4H is different in that there have been very few expatriates from the beginning and even less now that many have been posted to other overseas locations. So, 4H has a local flavour to the proceedings with even the songs in Chinese. The new Hash Master is Chinese and although there may be less alcohol consumed by the participants their exuberance is not diminished in any way.

Tiger Beer generously subsidise the Hash with their contributions of liquid refreshments, transport and other resources without which the Hash fee would be much higher and possibly exclude some of the more impecunious local Hash Members.

Meeting area at the Hollywood Bar and pre-run briefing given by Randy Goh for the benefit of Hainan Television which was doing an expose, sorry, lifestyle piece about the activities of expatriates in Haikou.

An extra 4 courses of bricks had been laid between setting the run the day before the Hash making negotiating the wall just a little more difficult. The mason also didn't appreciate some of the bricks being knocked out either.
