Welcome to what is Jungle Echoes's seventh issue in all. Those of you who have accompanied us along what already seems like quite a journey, have seen many changes. We hope you have enjoyed them and would like to encourage you to keep sending your opinions, comments and suggestions. Why the seventh ? Call me superstitious (but please call me !), but 7 is the fated lucky number in many cultures. So, why not the seventh issue to look back at and take stock of the work we've accomplished so far, and to set our goals for the future ? One of my favorite persons recently congratulated us because my presence was more palpable in our magazine. I am not sure this is a good thing, but perhaps is it a necessary thing. I do think it is necessary to take a stand. Jungle Echoes is one of my ways, and that of all those who contribute to it, of taking that stand. We have chosen to share, care and make a difference, however small. We have touched enough people to feel it worth pursuing our efforts, and that is our greatest achievement to date. We have also set our goals : to achieve the .com format, to make ourselves better known through this and to find advertisers and sponsors to make it easier to combine reality and ideals. To all of you - volunteer staff-members, readers, contributors and friends - a warm "Thank You". The present issue is a true example of Jungle Echoes' ideals. King Hussein bin Talal of Jordan is portrayed in Headlines, for not only was he a national statesman, he was also a man of peace. Our usual focus on cinema has been changed in this issue. February is Carnival month, and we have found Images of some of the most popular ones : Rio, Trinidad and New Orleans. You should feel the heat and passion seething through your computer, so get your suntan lotions ready. Joe Cocker is a true survivor, a great artist and, Darn !, an incredible voice. The post-Valentine collection of pieces on "What is Love ? " was perhaps the most thrilling article for me to edit. I love Love and I am happy to see that I am not the only one. I would be proud to think that (in a time when, as Garcia Marquez lamented : "... the word Love makes people laugh,") one of the commonalities between the readers and staff of Jungle Echoes, is that we nonetheless believe in Love. The article on Black Colleges, in Society, was requested by one of our readers, Troi Ellis. And you will obviously find the usual sections you have grown accustomed to. Harland, a reader who took the time to sign the Guestbook and make a couple of suggestions (hint...), requested an article on African American/Black financial empowerment : wealth/capital building. We, at J.E. lack the proper expertise and would like your contributions to make up for this. I know many of you are busy, but your contribution will help to put together an article that can enlighten and help many of us. And that is the true spirit of Jungle Echoes.
Enjoy Jungle Echoes #4.
