Your forces were unprepared for the double-attacks upon your front and back gates.
The back gate door was burnt to the ground, where as the front gate's doors were unlocked by a crafty vermin that reached the ramparts via grappling hook.
Soon the abbey was swarmed with vermin, out-numbering your forces 5 to 1. Cluny offered a challenge, "Surrender now, and no more will die." He offered this challenge while holding a dagger to your wife, Conflower's throat.
In a foolish but brave move, Cornflower escaped Cluny's clutches, and with the sword of a near by vermin, slew Cluny where he stood.
Cornflower was murdered by a stoat captain. The leaderless horde went into choas, and eventually lost the battle. There was no clear winner in this battle, you lost everything you had, Cornflower, Abbot Mortimer, even your best friend. All that keeps you going is the thrive to stop others from facing similar agony in the future.
In the memory of Cornflower, we thank her for saving Redwall Abbey. We thank you, Matthias, for your sacrifices as well, you did good. May Cornflower's memory never die!
