BS8: Beginning Anew

The latest Battle Season is getting set to start. Sign up begins on June 1st. All members to sign up by June 7th(the day before it begins) will be accepted - Limit One Entry Per Person [no multiple characters]. Entry through registration form only. You must be a member of my forum with "Abbey Members" status to play. All emails for game only activities (killing, assassinating, etc.) cannot be sent in prior to 12:00am central time on June 8th.. This means 1:00am US east coast, 11:00pm for mountain, 10:00pm pacific, etc.

The Goal - Use any tactics you can to eliminate the other players. Hire assissins to kill, mercenaries to protect, or use your allies to kill other players off one by one. Just remember, your allies will become your enemies.

The Equipment - You begin with 2,500 gold pieces. The maximum gold capacity is 10,000. You can use those gold pieces to buy a up to THREE weapons (25 acorn spikes, 3 throwing knives, or 10 poison potions=1 weapon), hire assassins, or even hire mercenaries (who also have a 3 weapon limit.). Be careful with your gold, some might get stolen from time to time. The players will be listed on a seperate page. You are limited to 10 potions and one choice of either leather armor, chain mail, or plate armor, and either a small shield or a large shield. You also must choose only one between gloves and gauntlets, and between greaves and spiked boots. Equipment and weapons may not have more than one of the same upgrade and no more than three upgrades. Any attempts to purchase more will just erase one at random and take its place, unless specified otherwise.

Pre-Season Training - This is the ability to train in one of many skills prior to the battle season. From the time you sign up you can pay for training in only one skill. Emails requesting training must be sent in at least one day prior to the beginning of the battle season. Each technique grants you a special title to either the beginning or end of your name on the roster. You may see a list of the skills, their costs, and their accompaning titles here.

Weather - Weather can play a major role in any battle. High winds could cause birds troubles, floods could leave all but few stranded, and lightning could add an interesting hazard to tree climbing. The weather is randomly determined based on a series of many variables. Each day battles take place [and some off-days], a weather report will be posted prior to any deaths being reported [up to a full day forecast or just minutes before posting deaths].

Killing - Players can only be killed by other players, traps, poisoners, mercenaries, or assassins. Killings will be reported on the RPG InfoBoard in the forums- but with very few details. To attempt to attack or kill another player- email ME about hiring an assassin OR target another player for you to attack. Even assassins risk failure. If you kill a player, you automatically get a portion of their remaining gold.
Once the field of competitors is down to four, there will be a one day break to buy equipment, and no more assassins or poisoners may be hired, nor traps set. Once the field of competitors is down to two, there will be a one day break to buy equipment. After the break a battle similar to those in the RTP archives will occur to find the winner.

Who Dies? - I decide who dies and who lives after an attack email has been sent on six categories of importance. In order of most decisive to least these attributes are:
1. Number (Alliances have advantage)
2. Healing Potions/Mercenary
3. Equipment
4. Weapon (including damage, range, and enchantments)
5. Attacker Advantage (surprise attacks)
6. Creature Advantages
A skill make take position among any of these, depending on its importance in the matter at hand.
Weather may also play hazard on who dies, especially by nullifying some creature advantages.

Hired Killers - Assassins and poisoners are hired to kill a player. You may only target one creature a day for hired killers. You may send as many hired killers as you want (providing you have the gold to) after that one target to reduce the failure risk, but you may still only target one creature a day.

Mercenaries - Mercenaries are hired for 500gp. You may only have one mercenary at a time. Each mercenary has a special ability, such as healing or martial arts. You may buy equipment for your mercenary to use, but he/she cannot train in a skill. Mercenaries have the same equipment limitations that a player of their specie would face in the battle season. Some come pre-trained, but besides them it's not allowed. Once a mercenary dies, you may hire a new one.

Spies - Spies never fail. A spy will gather information on any player you wish. He will send in three reports, one the day you sent him out and one the next two days after. You may only have one active spy at a time. Spies will tell you who that player killed and who that player has alliances with.

Traps - New from BS6 are traps. Either you or a paid rogue (as noted) will lay the trap of your choice in the path of an enemy of your choice. Each trap is effective a certain percent of the time in it's task. Sometimes traps may not be triggered when they were supposed to, and other times the intended victim may just avoid the trap entirely. Kill and Injury rates refer to only when the trap is triggered, whereas success rates show the percent of times the trap itself is triggered. Injury percentages include kills. Traps may be used in conjunction with an attack to help overcome the odds, though you and your allies must be careful as well, only the drop cage and rope loop traps don't aim to kill. There is a limit of three traps per day.

Alliances - You may ally with any number of players in a Battle Season. There are two types of alliances, the first is a one time alliance. In this type of alliance, you and your allies all email me with one target for a joint attack. Outside of this one battle, you have no ties to each other. The other type of alliance is a complete alliance. In this alliance you are bound to defend your allies and they must defend you if attacked. When attacking, if one of your allies attacks, then you must also attack unless the target of that attack is another of your allies. This puts you at some risk whenever your ally attacks, but also increases the chances of killing the target. Regarding what were formerly known as equipment alliances, any player may now give any other play any amount of weapons, equipment, or gold, so long as the recipient does not go over any limit. All alliance records are deleted as the members die, making it easier for me to read them... so if you are killed by the allies of a certain player, you will never know who killed you!

The Prize - The winner will recieve 300 points! - A huge sum of points. There are second, third and fourth place prizes, 175, 150 and 100 points. There will 15 points given out for participation.

Pawflash's Rulings Are Final - once you're dead, you're out of the game. YOU ARE NOT OUT OF THE ABBEY
