If you wanted to know why I would create this page, even though it may spoil books, I thought we must honor all Redwallers who passed away during the books.* May fate shine on their memory and they never be forgotten I have tagged each separate book, so if you haven't read a different book, you won't have to scroll past it to honor your favorite characters.
Lord Brocktree
Lord Stonepaw
Lord Stonepaw had been Badger Lord at Salamandastron for longer than anybeast could remember. However, when his mountain was besieged by Ungatt Trunn and his Blue Hordes, the Badger Lord's forces were forced to withdraw to hiding in the caverns below the mountain after being overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of vermin. When Stonepaw's hiding place was discovered, the old Badger Lord bravely stood his ground so that all his loyal hares could escape to safety. In the battle that followed, Stonepaw slew many vermin before becoming overwhelmed by numbers. With the last of his strength, the badger clutched as many vermin as he could and took them down to the depths of the bottomless lake with him.
Fleetscut and Jukka the Sling Nobeast would have ever guessed it, but Fleetscut the hare from Salamandastron and Jukka the Sling, leader of a tribe of greedy squirrels, would be friends in the end. Dispite the quarrels along their journey, friendship still shined through in the end. Though they were overwhelmed by the number of vermin swarming the corridors below Salamandastron in the reconquest of the mountain, Fleetscut and Jukka showed how much friendship can overcome. As said by Sailears, "Jukka an' Fleetscut were the bravest of the brave. Come now, young 'un, let them share the long sleep together." Martin the Warrior
Laterose of Noonvale
Probably the must heart-wrenching of all the deaths to occur in any Redwall book is that of Laterose of Noonvale, or Rose. She was Martin's best friend throughout the book Martin the Warrior. Rose was always cheery and had saved Martin's life many times with just her voice. Rose had the uncanny ability to imitate the screech of a golden eagle, which saved Martin early on in the book. Martin deeply loved Rose, and planned to go back and live with her in Noonvale after the Battle of Marshank. After Rose was slain by Badrang during the battle, Martin could not go back there with so many memories. He chose to never tell a single creature what happened during the battle, for it would only bring back the memories, especially the painful ones. Martin had even promised the chieftain of Noonvale, Rose's father that he would take care of her. After her death, Martin never spoke for three weeks, and when he did he just said he would leave and head south. In the words of Poleekin the mole, "That liddle mouseymaid be locked in Marthen's 'eart, and thurr she'm bound to stay."
Felldoh
Felldoh was a slave for Badrang as long as he could remember. His father Barkjon was a slave too. After his escape from Marshank with Martin and Brome, he had proven himself a warrior many times. In his epic last stand, Felldoh went out alone, to try to slay Badrang the Tyrant with two bundles of javelins and a slinger stick. When his challenge was offered, Badrang came out and fought one on one with the brave squirrel. Felldoh gained the advantage and began beating Badrang to death, as he was once beaten when he was a slave. The cowardly Badrang called upon his horde who had laid a trap nearby to help him. As Badrang ran away from the fierce squirrel, Felldoh could be heard laughing, even as he was being set upon by scores of vermin. In his last stand, Felldoh managed to slay over a score of Badrang's horde. In the words of his own father, Barkjon, "Never afraid, always a true warrior- that was Felldoh's way."
Mossflower
The Mask The Mask was an otter who played a critical role in the demise of Kotir and Tsarmina. Thanks to his many disguises, Mask tricked Fortunata into a trap where she was slain, and he single handedly freed Ferdy, Coggs, and Gingivere from the Kotir prison cells. It was in this daring rescue that Mask was killed by an arrow that Tsarmina had meant for her brother Gingivere. In the words of Gingivere, "Please let me have the honor of carrying him. He rescued us from the Kotir prison. Ferdy, Coggs, and myself, we owe him our lives."
Boar the Fighter
Boar the Fighter was a great Salamandastron Badger Lord. He was hospitible and kind to goodbeast, and always gave vermin their just desserts. The Badger Lord died settling a score with an old enemy, Ripfang, giving Martin and his friends to steal Ripfangs ship. Without Boar the Fighter, Martin's quest to rid Mossflower of Tsarmina may have failed. For all his courage and bravery, Boar the Fighter was a caring beast at heart.
The Legend of Luke
Luke
Martin the Warrior's legendary father. His tribe of mice who lived on the northern shores were attacked by pirate vermin while all the tribal warriors were away. The vermin attacked and one, Vilu Daskar, killed Sayna, Martin's mother. After Luke managed to capture a sailing vessel from pirates, many people from his tribe, including Luke himself went to search for harsh vengeance against Vilu and his vile crew. When the tribe's vessel, Sayna was rammed by Vilu's ship and smashed, only Luke and a few of his friends survived. Luke lead Vilu on a false course, off to the great spires of stone in the northern seas, to find Luke's tribe's "treasure." In his final act of valor, Luke pinned Vilu to the wheel at the front of the ship and rammed it directly into a great stone pillar. Vilu and Luke both died in the crash. In the words of Vurg, "They did it for you--for all of us, Martin. Everybeast who'd ever suffered the wickedness of Daskar an' his red ship... Between them their final sacrifice was to rid the land an' seas from a great evil."
Ranguvar Foeseeker
Ranguvar was taken captive by Vilu Daskar and became a galley slave on his ship Goreleech. The black squirrel was a fierce warrior who despised the evil creatures who had taken her captive. Ranguvar was slaying all the crew members who came into sight at the front of the Goreleech, during its final battle. She was fighting madly and was helping to defend Luke as he drove the boat straight into a stone monolith. Once again in the words of Vurg, "They did it for you--for all of us, Martin. Everybeast who'd ever suffered the wickedness of Daskar an' his red ship... Between them their final sacrifice was to rid the land an' seas from a great evil."
The Crew of Sayna Out of the many creatures aboard the ship Sayna, very few survived. Luke, Vurg, Beau (who wasn't on the ship at the time), Dulam, and Denno were the only survivors. Cordle, Coll, Cardo, and many other friends of Luke who set out with him for revenge upon Vilu Daskar died when Vilu's much larger ship, the Goreleech rammed it to splinters.
The Outcast of Redwall
Skarlath
Skarlath the kestrel was saved by Sunflash the Mace from an ice storm. Skarlath in turn freed Sunflash from his bonds which kept him as a slave of Swartt Sixclaw. Skarlath was very wise, if not for him Sunflash would have been slain by Swartt's band of vermin. Skarlath taught Sunflash how to pick his enemies off one by one. When Sunflash stayed with the Lingl and Dubbo families, in their cave, Skarlath told him where Swartt was at. When Sunflash felt called to Salamandastron, Skarlath was his eyes in the sky. He brought news of Swartt's advancement, with his now vast horde, and news from his friends in the cave. Skarlath was killed by an arrow from Nightshade, Swartt's seer vixen, when he was giving a signal for Sunflash to attack Swartt's now beleaguered forces. In the words of Sunflash the Mace, "Skarlath, my true friend."
Veil the Outcast
Veil, son of ferret warlord Swartt Sixclaw was found by the warriors who fought against Swartt when he entered Mossflower Wood near the Abbey. Abbess Miriam decided that Bryony should become the ferretbabe's adoptive mother. Veil was named by ancient Bella of Brockhall, for his name rearranged spells "evil", which she hoped the ferret would not bring. For many years, Veil was accused of every bad thing done within the abbey, most of the time rightfully so, but one day he did the unforgivable... Veil poisoned a member of the Abbey, and for the first time ever, a member of the Abbey was outcast, for crimes against Redwall. Bryony still loved Veil, and always did, even though he was cruel and heartless to her when she followed him, trying to change his ways. In the final confrontation with Swartt Sixclaw, Veil told his deadbeat father to leave Bryony alone. Swartt hurled a spear at Bryony, and Veil either jumped in the way, or accidentally sacrificed himself for Bryony. Veil died from the wound, but the question still remains, Was Veil Really A Good Creature???
Mariel of Redwall
Colonel Clary and Brigadier Thyme of the Long Patrol
Colonel Clary and Brigadier Thyme along with Hon Rosie arrived at Redwall when it was under siege from the searat Graypatch and his vermin crew Thanks to the hares' efforts and battle skills they managed to keep Redwall safe from the vermin, but to Mother Mellus, kind hearted Badgermum of Redwall, that was not enough. When Mother Mellus appealed for help, the three hares decided they would help. Their mission: Rescue the Oarslaves. The three hares made many bold plans that worked each time, but each time, Graypatch got more clever as well. To free the last of the slaves, Colonel Clary decided it was time for a frontal assault, and his troops were behind him. In the final escape, Clary, Thyme, and Hon Rosie surprise everyone, friend and foe alike when they strutted into the vermin camp nonchalantly and gave Pakatugg (who had been taken captive as well) a knife to free the slaves from the cage. In this frontal assault, the chance of survival was slim, but the slaves were granted escape. Graypatch's crew attacked the three hares and Pakatugg with great ferocity, but they were laid low with a few hits from weapon or limb. There were too many for the four valiant fighters, Colonel Clary, Brigadier Thyme, and Pakatugg went under. Hon Rosie saw all hope was lost, and summoned the last of her energy to take an amazing leap out of the fray of battle, over Graypatch's head, and then sprint to where she collapsed and the goodbeasts of Redwall found her. In the words of Treerose, "Oh, they were so brave!... Father Abbot, why did they do it?"
Pakatugg
Pakatugg was a squirrel who was never very nice or pleasant, he helped Mariel part of the way to Redwall Abbey, but only because of food given to him by Clary, Rosie, and Thyme. One day Pakatugg noticed searat scouts going about in Mossflower and decided to trail them, "stinging" them every so often with his blowgun. The rats caught on and captured the squirrel. He was brought back to Graypatch and then was forced to reveal the location of Redwall to the vermin crew. Pakatugg was kept prisoner, chained with the oarslaves, as Graypatch's crew marched through Mossflower to the abbey. When Clary, Thyme, and Rosie helped slaves escape, he was not one of the lucky ones to get away in the first few attempts. Pakatugg was instrumental in the final escape of the oarslaves when Clary, Thyme, and Rosie made their frontal assault. He cut the slave's cage apart where they were bound together, and when all of the oarslaves had escaped, Pakatugg took his revenge upon the searat crew. Many foebeasts fell to Pakatugg as he sought vengeance upon his captors. Along side the three Long Patrol hares, Pakatugg made his final stand.
The Bellmaker
Mother Mellus, Badgermum of Redwall
Mother Mellus was loved by all the creatures within Redwall, for years, she was a driving force inside the Abbey. Mother Mellus never harmed a single good creature, and welcomed all. When the Abbey welcomed Blaggut and his captain Slipp, two searats, the only thing on Slipp's mind was treasure. There was a silver cup as an award for an Abbey talent show, and the winners were two babes. The two babes led Blaggut to believe they knew where the Abbey treasure was, and Slipp went to dig it up. When the searats only found trinkets, Slipp threatened to attack the babes. Mother Mellus, not even thinking about her own safety, threw herself at the armed searat, who plunged a dagger into her chest. Mellus died, and Blaggut fled, urged by Captain Slipp. Blaggut was not an evil creature, unlike his captain. Blaggut was so angry at Slipp that he killed his own captain and returned to Redwall Abbey, with the silver cup and regrets. In the words of Blaggut the Searat, "Yore badger was a good creature, 'e (Slipp) did wrong to slay 'er. I would've stopped 'im, but it all 'appened so quick."
Fatch, the Guosim Shrew
When the war against Urgan Nagru was raging in Southsward, another battle was going on inside of Castle Floret. The Redwallers and those who were on the ship Pearl Queen, along with a tribe of otters, fought along side Mariel, Dandin, Rab, and Muta. During the battle, Rufe foolishly tried to capture Silvamord, Urgan Nagru's mate. When Rufe turned his back on the vixen, she struck him with her sword. Silvamord was just about to finish off Rufe when Fatch threw himself at Silvamord, to protect his friend. Silvamord stabbed Fatch through and ran up the stairs with her troops. In the words of Joseph the Bellmaker (spoken to Rufe): "I should hope you will never forget Fatch. He was a brave shrew to give his life for you."
Finnbar Galedeep
Finnbar Galedeep was a sea otter who helped the beasts from the abbey to get to Southsward. With his expert guidance, the Redwallers and Guosim took control of the pirate ship Pearl Queen (the vessel which belonged to Finnbar until pirates stole it.) The sea otter was an expert sailer and steersbeast, knowing the waters well. Another vermin boat was trailing Finnbar's so the sea otter pulled a risky move, and ran along the edge of a great maelstrom (whirlpool). The vermin were not nearly as skillful as the sea otter and plunged down into the depths of the maelstrom. The maelstrom was the creator of the Roaringburn Current, which the Redwallers would follow to Southsward. When the crew of the Pearl Queen reached Southsward, they soon gain friends and allies against Urgan Nagru and Silvamord, two vilainous foxes who took over Southswards. The crew battled alongside Mariel, Rab, and Muta inside the castle against Silvamord, and when that was won, they all went to help the Southsward freedom fighters outside. Taken off guard by the Redwallers (and allies) attack, Urgan Nagru's forces were soon destroyed as the fox tried to slip off into the forests, but Finnbar caught up to him. It was a fierce one on one battle, the fox versus the sea otter. Urgan Nagru wore his wolf pelt, the one with razor sharp claws that he could slip his paws into as weapons. Finnbar could not use his swords in paw to paw combat. The two forces clashed and battled tooth and claw. Urgan Nagru cried for help, which came from a hordebeast's spear, snapping as it plunged into Finnbar. Finally, with a giant heave, Finnbar threw Urgan Nagru against an oak tree. The fangs that adorned his pelt by his head pierced Urgan Nagru's skull, killing him. Sadly, Finnbar suffered many wounds, including the fatal spear jab. He sat down next to a tree and asked to be faced seaward, so he could die facing the seas he loved so dearly. In the words or Rufe (epilogue), "Finnbarr Galedeep was a mighty warrior."
Salamandastron
Spriggat
Spriggat was a cheerful old hedgehog who first met Samkim and Arula when the two went to retrieve the Sword of Martin from Dingeye and Thura. Samkim and Arula were eating lunch when they were beset upon by a horde of wasps. Spriggat told the two how to escape while he ate the wasps. After the wasps had left, Spriggat told Samkim and Arula how to remove and soothe the stings they had both gotten. Spriggat went along with the two questors, helping them track the Dingeye and Thura, and later Deathbrush the fox. He taught them how to track and hints about always being prepared. After following Deathbrush to the great inland lake, Samkim retrieved the sword just before the Deepcoiler attacked. The serpentine animal attacked the shrew boats and bit the old hedgehog. Samkim managed to kill the Deepcoiler, but the damage had been done. Spriggat knew he was dying and in the hour of dawn he passed away in the arms of his dear friend Samkim. In the words of Samkim, "He said he was going to find a summer forest, full of wasps and flying insects. Then he just smiled at me and , and... Oh, my poor friend!"
Urthstripe the Strong, Lord of Salamandastron
Urthstripe the Strong, as he was known, was a great Lord of Salamandastron. He cared deeply for his adopted daughter Mara. Mara was very rebellious, as her "father" was slightly controlling. She left the mountain with her friend Pikkle, before the seige began. Ferahgo the Assassin and his army of Corpsemakers were set on making the mountain and its treasures their own. Ferahgo laid seige to the mountain, employing a poisoner to poison the food and water in the storerooms of Salamandastron. In the final battle, Ferahgo and Urthstripe battled to the death. In the end, Urthstripe and Ferahgo plunged over the mountain's edge and both died. Mara had returned during the final battle with the Guosim shrews, Samikim, Arula, Urthwyte and Loambudd. Urthwyte was Urthstripe's long lost brother and Loambudd his grandmother. Mara and Urthwyte wept over their loss as Loambudd began looking toward the future. In the words of Mara, "I have ranged far and wide to be back home here with you, and in that time I have slowly understood what you tried to teach me - you who were true to your own code of honor and duty. To everybeast you were Urthstripe the Strong, Lord of the mountains; so will your name be always remembered. You cannot hear me now, but I wish to add one more name to your title...Father!"
Redwall
Brother Methuselah, Abbey Recorder
Brother Methuselah was the oldest mouse at Redwall. Though he was old and fragile, his mind was still sharp. Methuselah was Matthias's helper in his quest for the Sword of Martin. The two mice spent hours on end together, trying to understand Martin's riddles. They became great friends and cared much for one another.
Methuselah was trying to stop Chickenhound from stealing some items from the abbey when the fox hit him with the bag of loot. Methuselah crumpled to the ground and died. In the words of Abbot Mortimer, "He restored Martin to his place of honor. Methuselah was the gentlest mouse I ever knew. Poor mouse, he never did anything to deserve such a cruel fate."
Abbot Mortimer, Father Abbot of Redwall
Abbot Mortimer was a gentle creature with a good heart. He believed that all creatures could be good, even Cluny. He did not want to fight Cluny, he was far too peaceful for that, but he was open to the words of his trusted advisors, and knew they were right. The Abbot was just and knew that he had no place in a war but to tend to the sick, so he left the planning up to his trusted friends, Constance, Basil, Jess, Skipper, Matthias, and others. In the final conflict with Cluny, Abbot Mortimer would not bow to Cluny to save his own life, but if he could bow to save the lives of his friends, he would do it graciously. Cluny was angered by the Abbot's rebellion against his will, so he slashed the kind old mouse with his poisoned tail barb. After the battle was over, and Redwall had won, the Abbot said his last words, praising his friends, the Abbey, and the beautiful day that had seen its freedom from Cluny's seige. He made Brother Alf the new Abbot and Matthias the warrior of Redwall, champion of the order. The Abbot told Matthias to have the gatehouse become a cottage for Matthias and Cornflower, and after his last words to his dear friends, the abbot of Redwall Abbey breathed his last. In his own words, "I see the most beautiful summer morning of my life. The friends I know and love are all about me. Redwall, our home, is safe. The sun shines warmly upon us. Nature is ready to yield her bounty again in plenty this autumn. I have seen it all before, many times, and yet I never cease to wonder. Life is good, my friends. I leave it to you. Do not be sad, for mine is a peaceful rest."
Mattimeo
Friar Hugo and Lettie Bankvole
Friar Hugo was the master chef at Redwall Abbey in the books Redwall and Mattimeo. Lettie Bankvole was a new character in Mattimeo who had two children Cynthia and Rollo. She would always chide Basil for teaching Rollo bad things like "throttle a stoat" whil he was singing. Soon, Rollo was composing his own verses about October Ale. When the people at Redwall were drugged by Lunar Stellaris (Slagar), only three beasts did not drink the toast, Friar Hugo and John Churchmouse already had full cups (and did not refill with drugged drinks), while Lettie was caring for Rollo. When the three creatures saw Slagar stealing the children, they tried to stop the slavers. They were greatly outnumbered. Lettie and Friar Hugo were killed while John Churchmouse was left for dead, but later recovered. In the words of Basil Stag Hare, "He never did harm to a single creature. Why this.... Why?"
Warbeak, Sparra Queen
If you recall, in Redwall Warbeak and Matthias became friends on his search for the Sword of Martin. She led Matthias to the sparra loft to search for the sword, which King Bull Sparra was thought to have. When in the loft, Warbeak and her mother Dunwing plead for Matthias, and later Dunwing created his escape from the heights of the abbey. When King Bull Sparra died, the king's niece, Warbeak, took over. She and her sparrows helped Matthias and the Guosim in the final battle against Cluny the Scourge at Redwall. In Mattimeo, Warbeak helped search for the slavers, and her sparrows sent a message to Matthias from back home. Warbeak and her brave sparrow warriors saved Matthias's small party from certain defeat when they battled Stonefleck's army of rats when they were heading to Malkariss. Warbeak fell during the battle against the overnumbering horde of rats. In the words of Matthias, "That was the bravest thing I've ever seen any creature do. She threw herself and her warriors at those rats, knowing she and her sparras stodd no chance. They flew in against arrows and attacked with only beak and claw."
Log-a-Log of Guosim
Log-a-Log helped save Redwall Abbey in the book Redwall. He appears again in Mattimeo to help the abbey members recover their stolen loved ones. Log-a-Log was a great friend to Matthias. Together (along with Cheek, Basil, Jess, Jabez, Orlando, Sparrows, and the entire Guosim) they went through a forest with painted ones, crossed a river of meat eating fish, and across a black abyss to find the kingdom of Malkariss where their friends and family were slaves. In the final battle at Malkariss Log-a-Log was deeply wounded and asked his best shrew, Flugg, to take him back to the surface into the light. Along the way, Flugg and Log-a-Log heard a noise from the opposite side of a door and opened it. It was Mattimeo and the others! Log-a-Log lived just long enough to fulfill a promise, freeing Mattimeo and the rest of the abbey children from the dungeons of Malkariss. Log-a-Log died with a smile on his face.
Pearls of Lutra
Piknim
Piknim and the squirrel Craklyn were best friends. Together they sang, danced, and solved riddles. When it came to solving riddles, none were better than Piknim and Craklyn. Together with Tansy and old Rollo Bankvole, the four set about finding the Tears of All Oceans by using riddles left behind by Fermald the Ancient. When one riddle led them to a nest outside an abbey window, experimenting proved that a jackdaw must have stolen the pearl from the nest. Jackdaws love shiny things, so the four pearl searchers placed a shiny object in the nest and chased the bird all the way back to it's home, St. Ninian's Church. At St. Ninian's, the birds attacked the pearl searchers, Gerul the Owl who went along on the journey quickly flung Tansy and Craklyn out of the building, but Piknim was lost inside. The jackdaws attacked the poor Piknim and killed her. Rollo had Skipper get the pearl from inside, and then Rollo ordered St. Ninian's to be burned to the ground, because it was a place of evil. Cluny had set camp in the church, Slagar had hid in it before he headed to Malkariss, and now Piknim had been killed by the evil jackdaws. In the song of Craklyn, "Fare you well upon your journey, To the bright lands far away, Where beside the peaceful rivers, You may linger any day. In the forests warm at noontide, See the flowers bloom in the glades, Meet the friends who've gone before you, To the calm of quiet shades. There you'll wait, Oh my beloved, Never knowing want or care, And when I have seen my seasons, We will walk together there."
The Long Patrol
Russa Nodrey
Russa Nodrey wasn't the softest squirrel in the land, but she was a great warrior. Russa was a squirrel who had no home, she was a wanderer, thus the name Nodrey, with a drey meaning a squirrel's home. Russa helped Tammo (on Mem Divinia's request) to meet up with the Long Patrol. Russa taught Tammo how to throw his mother's dirk, and she taught him the ways of the warrior. Tammo and Russa quickly became friends. After the two met up with some Long Patrol hares, Russa helped defend an old badger wife and a young babe from some vermin. It was in this battle that Russa was slain. Russa and the old badger gave their lives so that the badger babe could live. It was only fitting that the babe be named Russano after Russa Nodrey. In the words inscribed on her tombstone, "Russa Nodrey and an unknown badger lie within. They died fighting for freedom against cruelty. Seasons may pass, but we will remember them."
Rockjaw Grang
Rockjaw Grang was a perilous Long Patrol hare who always cared for the young ones and watched over them closely. That was exactly what he was doing when his time came. With a horde of rats pounding just behind them, Midge and Tammo had to flee the Rapscallion camp. Tammo would've never had time to escape had it not been for the brave and perilous beast, who always put others first. In the words of Tammo, "He... he gave his life so we could escape."
Marlfox
Log-a-Log of the Guosim Log-a-Log was a good and fair leader of the Guosim shrews. It was only due to the treachery of a verminous shrew named Fenno that he was slain. The cowardly shrew struck out when the shrew chieftain had charged into battle to defend Redwall Abbey from the dibbun-stealing Marlfoxes. Log-a-Log was well loved by all and was always true to his friends. In the words of Dippler, future Log-a-Log of Guosim, "The Log a Log was like a father t'me. That ole shrew'll live fer ever in my memory."
Elachim
The friendly travelling performer and brother of Borrakul was a great acrobat, actor, and entertainer. However, when a battle came the otter was certain to be in on it. Defending an abbey where he was merely a guest, Elachim and the rest of the Troope went to battle against the Marlfoxes to rescue Dwopple the dibbun. In the battle that ensued, the kindly otter was slain, much to his brother and everybeasts' sadness.
Nutwing
Nutwing was one of the three owl chicks who were born in the season of the abbey's south wall's collapse. Out of the three, only Nutwing stayed to live at the abbey and became well loved by everybeast, even despite his terrible memory. The friendly old owl was just trying to be helpful when he was slain by the villainous Marlfox Ascrod.
Taggerung
Rillflag Rillflag the otter was as proud and doting of an otter father as one could be. The Taggerung's father and respected abbey member was merely completing an old otter tradtion of touching a newborn's fur to running water when he was mercilessly slain and his son Deyna stolen by Sawney Rath. The friendly otter was loved by everybeast and was a special friend of the Skipper of otters.
Lady Cregga Roseyes, Badgermum of Redwall Abbey
Lady Cregga was a fearsome warrior in her younger days, but at the battle against the Rapscallions Cregga lost her sight in her struggle to slay Damug Warfang. The once fearsome warrior then spent her days mainly peacefully in Redwall Abbey, only drawing upon her fearsome strength when her friends and beloved abbey were threatened. Cregga reared young Lord Russano the Wise from his cub years and sent him off to rule Salamandastron, but the old badger herself was also known for her wisdom. For countless seasons she lived in the abbey, and twice in absence of Abbot or Abbes she guided the Abbey. Her wisdom and age were unparreled among anybeast, for none know of anybeast who ever lived longer than the beloved badgermother. For ages on end she lived at the abbey, with the coming and going of many beasts. Of course there was to be no other way for the loving old badgermum to die than defending the abbey and upholding its tradition. In a risky parley with the Juskarath beasts Eefera and Valug, Cregga was mortally wounded by an arrow shot by Valug Bowbeast. Of course the old badger was resiliant, and had many more pearls of wisdom to pass on before her time was up, passing away quietly as Boorab played an old marching song from back in the ages of Cregga's warrior days, a smile on her face and surrounded by loved ones. In the words carved upon her own headstone, "Sleep softly on, Beloved One, Take with you all our dreams, To rest in noontide valleys, Beside old silent streams. Cregga Roseyes, Warrior Badger of Salamandastron, and Badgermum of Redwall Abbey for countless seasons.."
Triss
Shogg Shogg the otter was a true and loyal friend. From the moment he, Triss, and Welfo escaped Riftguard, Shogg never left Triss. He was with her 'til the end, risking his own life for hers, and giving the ultimate sacrifice for his dear friend. In his death, Shogg saved Triss from the venomous fangs of the adder triumvirate, giving her the chance to return and liberate the slaves of Riftguard. To Shogg many beasts owe their lives, for he gave his life so Triss could live.
