Introducing "Tante Sidonia"
In Holland, there exists an extremely popular comic book serie named "Suske & Wiske", written by Willy Vandersteen. About a boy and a girl who have an aunt in common, "Tante Sidonia", a courageous and fiercely loyal parent figure who strives to keep the "family" together. Tante Sidonia is as tall and slim as a beanstalk with feet the size of a boat. This gives rise to a number of jokes, which she casually takes in stride, but deep down inside she secretly and passionately covets Lambik and is utterly devoted to winning him over.

Lambik, however, does not share the same romantic feelings for Sidonia and is usually off getting himself into trouble with his oversized ego and careless escapades. Suske and Wiske are amature detectives, so to speak, and with the combined efforts of Tante Sidonia, their good friends professor Barabas, body builder/neanderthaler Jerom and doll Schanulleke, always succeed in solving each mystery and concluding each adventure with a happy ending.
When I was 15-18 and living in Suriname, I too was tall and slim and this earned me the nickname "Tante Sidonia". Which, at the time I hated, ofcourse, but now remember to be one of the most carefree periods of my life. A typical teenager with worries only about boys/dates, school grades, personal insecurities, parental authority and so forth.

Now, twenty years later, I've had the good fortune to find and re-establish contact through the internet with many of the friends and neighbours, who share similar happy memories of those bygone days.
I urge anyone I know from that period of time who sees these pages and feels the urge to respond,
send me an email letter!
