ADMIRABLE PEOPLE

On this page you'll find out what kind of people I admire. I'm not a hysteric fan of them, though. I for one don't give a shit for *good looks* (which is an illusion, a concept depending on where you live, the era, culture...), how much money a person makes or how educated he is. I admire people, who have made a difference, stood out the crowd and tried to make this world a better place.

Richard Gere

He isn't like all those celluloid stars talking about looks, fame, competing who makes most cash.. etc. Richard has something to say and he cares for other people, especially those poor ones in Tibet.

Monica Lewinsky

Now you're probably asking something like this : What on earth is she doing on this list??? She hasn't done anything brave, actually she's done nothing but messed up... I'm kinda shy, cynical, serious.. - many Finns are. I admire her because she has all the qualities I'd like to have : she's so easygoing, emotional, kinda naiive, open and nice to be around.

Princess Diana

She was one of the sweetest people there ever has been. I couldn't help crying after hearing the terrible news about the car crash. I don't think I can ever go to Paris and enjoy myself being there. I adored Diana, she gave me strenght to go on in my life, no matter how difficult everything seemed to be. She had survived, why wouldn't I, I kept thinking.

Henrik Ibsen

He's one of the best Norwegian writers. The stangest thing about him is that thought he's a man he fought for woman rights. One of his best plays "Dockhem" is a story about a young woman, who is tired of being married to a man not respecting her as an equal person. People of the 19th century were amazed to see such a play, and some fundamentalists wanted the most radical scenes to be removed of it.

Jerry Lee Lewis

His music is great, it's fashinating, killer-rock, yeah. But there's more to it, too. He was a true rebel in the 50s. He was told to end up spending 1000 years in hell, because of playing that rebellent rock. But he didn't care, he wanted to play it more than anything, he knew he was born to entrertain people. I can only admire his determination.

sceptic writers

They were the ones, who fought for the freedom to think and believe what makes sense to you instead of being brainwashed by cruel dogmas given by the church. I'm not going to take a stance on whether Bible is correct and divine-inspired, but in the 19th century and before it was interpeted very rigidly causing much hate, intolerance, human suffering. Spectics knew they would encounter hate, scorn, even persecution because of their texts, but they still were honest with themselves and wrote their conclusions down. I'd call that a very brave act. One of my favorite skeptic writers is Robert Green Ingersoll. You can find some of his essays here.

Charlie Chaplin

He's the greatest entertainer there ever has been. Sure Mr Bean makes me laugh and the Fast Show as well, but Chaplin is still my favorite. He was brave enough to critizise technology in Modern Times and Hitler's actions in The Great Dictator . It's this sarcasm, which makes us laugh.

Rene Descartes

He was the first one to question EVERYTHING. One of his most famous sayings is "I think therefore I am". I'm fashinated by his honesty and bravery. Not many people venture questioning things, which are generally believed to be thruth. In addition to questioning things he also invented many tings, like the system of co ordinates in mathematics.
