Elmer's Ancestors


        The paternal branch of Elmer's family begins with Joseph Coulthard who was born on March 5, 1823 in Swaledale, Yorkshire, England.  Joe died on March 1, 1862.  His wife, Elizabeth Wilson, was born October 6, 1823 in Stanhope, Durham, England.  She died in 1910.

        They raised seven children in the New Diggings mining area.  The children and their spouses were:

        Fennwick "Fred"---1862-1934---married Margaret Garbutt

        The maternal side of the family begins with Thomas Peacock, and Mary Hutchinson.  They were both born in Arkengarthdale, Yorkshire,  which is a mining area in central England.  Thomas was born October 10, 1818.  He died July 8, 1897.  Mary was born May 23, 1822 and died January 1, 1919.  They were married sometime in 1839 and came to New Diggings in 1840.  Perhaps the boat trip was their "honeymoon."
