Okinawa is the Southern islands of Japan. My friends and I decided to go into the jungle on the Iriomote Island.
On the first day, we walked in the thick jungle and put up a tent near a waterfall. At midnight, I was awakened by the sound of falling rain and I found the water coming into our tent. Suddenly my friend who was staying in another tent jumped into my tent. He shouted, "Our tent has been carried away into the basin of the waterfall by a flood!" Opening the front of the tent, I was speechless with surprise and fright. The waterfall had become twice as big as the previous day after a typhoon had hit the region that night.
Next morning we tried to go back the way we had come, but the river was swollen after the heavy rain and we weren't able to cross it. We went another way which was really hard to follow.
Finally we arrived at the landing place where the boats to the outside of the jungle came. The jungle was on an uninhabited island. We waited for a boat for hours, but no boat appeared on that day. Because of the typhoon, all boat services were cancelled. Actually we didn't have enough food left. We ate some biscuits and a little rice. We were completely exhausted and starving. The next day, fortunately, we were able to go back to the village.
I'll never forget the meal we had at the restaurant after we came back!!
