I finished the book I mentioned in the previous blog, i.e. "the man who invented fidel". It was a very informative and interesting book. I highly recommend it not only to anyone interested in Cuban history but also anyone interested in journalism and its affect on history. As the author indicates, it is quite possible that Castro would have come to power even withouth the articles that were written by Herbert Matthews, but there is no denying that they did have an affect on people's perception of Castro. It also, in a suble way points out the dangers, from a journalistic point of view, of having 'imbedded' reporters in military operations as their reporting has a tendency to become less objective than it might otherwise be.
A change of subject. A poliical cartoon in this mornings newspaper indicated that Iran is supplying most if not all of the weapons for Hezbollah. This makes me wonder who is supplying the weapons or the money for the weapons for Israel. Could it be the U.S.? If so, does that make the U.S. as culpable as Iran for the mid-east conflict between Hezbollah and Israel?
