OK - it has been awhile. Today we talk about the politics of the great state of Alabama. Recently one of the two most powerful special interest groups, ALFA, was intstrumental in getting the bill to call for a Constitutional Convention tabled. ALFA which has bought and paid for many, possibly even a majority of, state legistlators in Alabama does allow its legislators to vote against one bill a year so that that they claim they don't own the legislators. ALFA's main argument against a constitutional convention is that they are afraid that special interest groups will get control of the convention. Of course their real fear is that they will lose control of the state legistlature as the most powerful special interest group in the state. Currently the state constitution heavily favors big land owners, the people or companies that ALFA represents. A new constitution will probably be much more balanced and not give priority to this elite group.
