I spent the week-end in Coden, AL helping with a Katrina victim rebuild.   This is an area just outside of Bayou La Batre, AL that was getting no help at all except for the FEMA trailers that many are living in.   The house we are working on was built by the current owner's grandfather with lumber that was milled from the property.  The Sierra Club is sponsoring this project and making it a green rebuild.   A metal roof that reflects the sun's heat,  a heat barrier on the rafters, insulation that is made from re-cycled newspaper are some of the items that make it "green".    The metal roof was put on the first trip that we made there.   On this trip, the inside framing was completed,  the windows were caulked, soffit was put on and painted some more insulation was put on the concrete block walls in the back two rooms, the front and back doors were hung.   Now the electrical wiring needs to be completed and the plumbing needs to be finished and inspected before the drywall can be installed.  Hopefully she will be able to move into her house in the not too distant future.
