Castle Information
Could I be Royalty? *smile*
A few years back, my Grandmother had a pic of a large "house-like" structure hanging on her wall and I asked her what it was and where it was. She informed me that it was a castle and our family is decendents of the people who lived there and owned it. So, I just recently decided to do a bit of genealogy research on the internet and I found out some interesting stuff.
This picture of Erchless Castle in Scotland was the picture my Grandmother had up on her wall.
The Research Continues.......
Well, upon doing my research on the internet and actually talking to someone online from Scotland, I found out that there was not ONE, but TWO castles in my family. This second one is right on Lake Loch Ness and is often a good place to see if you can see "Nessie" of the Loch.
Urquart Castle is in a state of ruin, but it's still a beautiful place to visit right out in Lake Loch Ness.
The family that owned all of this was named Chisholm and the first record of them was in 1248. Now, that's a LONG TIME AGO!! If you are interested in the whole story, you can check out a site at http://www.cix.co.uk/~laitrie/chisholm.htm (you can cut & paste that in case I'm too lazy to figure out how to just do a link to it *smile*). I'm still working on the whole geneology and how they got over to the states and what not, but I do know basically how tht happened...(I have to look more into it to make sure it's right though), but for now...WIlliam Chisholm had four children and his oldest son moved away at some point and came over to the states and that is how they at least got over to the US.
This is just another picture of Urquart Castle that I thought was really pretty.
