Pigs Might Fly |

I have known Phil Lyons for some years now and his name will be familiar to anyone in Bristol with an interest in poetry and literature. Pigs Might Fly is taken from his 1995 collection, "Borrowed Time" and is reprinted with permission.
True love wins through every time. The villain repents of his crime. No mountain is too steep to climb. Pigs might fly.... Like pink clouds, they float in the breeze. They grunt and they snort and they sneeze. They land just wherever they please, by and by. They're angels, perhaps, in disguise who make us feel clever and wise by seeming to be oversize -- figures of fun. We trap them and put them in sties. We stun them and put them in pies. There are very few left in the skies; Soon there'll be none. True love will be given the boot as the villain runs off with the loot and we're all left stuck at the foot of life's molehill. Take it from me, pigs can fly. It isn't just pie in the sky. It's dreaming that helps us get by, come what will. ©1995 Philip Lyons |
