The Sound of My Own Voice |
|
During the 1970s and 1980s, the Green Branch Theatre Company built up a small but loyal following in the West Country. Most of the productions were written and directed by Tim Porter and were based on Celtic mythology, Arthurian legend, and English history. The Green Branch emblem (left) of the Wodwose, or Green Man, served as a reminder of Britain's ancient heritage, which constantly takes new shape but which always remains alive. The Sound of My Own Voice is Tim's telling of the early life of George Whitefield, the Gloucester-born evangelist who was to have such an effect on English religion. The only production of The Sound of My Own Voice toured the West on 20-28 June 1986 and the photographs in this section of the site are taken from the dress rehearsal. If you saw one of these performances, or remember another Green Branch production, I hope these photographs bring back ond memories. Personally, I haven't been able to eat a plum since!
