London -- April 2002 Photos
Terry and I got a great offer from AA.vacations that we just couldn't pass up. We went to London for the weekend. Left Thursday night, arrived Heathrow at 6:30 AM Friday. Returned noon on Monday. It was a glorious 3-4 day trip.
After landing, we dropped off our luggage at the hotel. Then we started out to explore London.
Friday adventures:
- Thames river cruise. Since it was drizzling, this seemed like a good thing to start with and we could get a view of lots of London from the boat.
- Cleopatra needle
- Lunch at a riverside cafe
- Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben.
- Quick nap at hotel
- Harrods to do some shopping
- Back to the hotel where we found an excellent Nepal restaurant right by the tube stop
Saturday adventures:
- Started with Tower of London where the crown jewels are kept
- Tower bridge
- Lunch
- Leichester Square to get some 1/2 price tickets for a play that afternoon
- British museum
- Piccadilly Square
- All the works of Shakespeare in 91 minutes. Terry even got to sit in a 'box seat' above the theater that she always wanted to do. It was an awesome theater
- Dinner at a local pub near the tube
- Crashed at the hotel
Sunday we went to:
- Madame Truseau
- Planetarium (dissappointing)
- Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard
- Royal Mews where they keep the carriages and Rolls Royce and Bentleys
- Kennsington Palace (nice if you want to see Princess Di dresses)
- Covent Gardens which now has lots of shopping
- British Transportation Museum
- St. Pauls Cathedral
- Millenium Bridge

The millenium wheel. You can see in the background how it is larger than some of the buildings near by.
This is a new building going up. Forget what's supposed to be in it, but the shape is very interesting.
